Great South Run information
The Great South run covers a total distance of 10 miles, starting from the Esplanade in Southsea to complete a circuit through the Old Portsmouth, the Naval Dockyard and Eastney before returning back to the Esplanade. Taking place on fairly flat terrain, The Great South Run is known for being very enjoyable for beginners, but proper preparation, commitment and training are required before entering.
If you run at a higher level, the Great South Run might be an event worth adding to your trophy cabinet. The elite race is labelled by the IAAF as a Gold Label Road race, attracting some of the worlds most successful runners. In 2008, British athlete Paula Radcliffe ran a new British Record time of 45 minutes and 15 seconds.
